For 4 Servings:
1 cup of old-fashioned rolled oats
2 cups of water or milk (or a combination of both)
Pinch of salt (optional)
Optional toppings such as honey, maple syrup, fresh or dried fruit, nuts, or cinnamon
1. In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the rolled oats, water or milk (or a combination of both), and salt (if using).
2. Place the saucepan on the gas stove over medium-high heat.
3. Stir the mixture occasionally and bring it to a boil.
4. Once the mixture comes to a boil, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer.
5. Continue to stir the mixture occasionally and let it cook for 5-10 minutes, or until the oats have absorbed most of the liquid and have become soft and creamy.
6. If you prefer a thicker consistency, continue cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes.
7. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the oatmeal cool for a few minutes.
8. Serve the oatmeal in bowls and add toppings of your choice, such as brown sugar, maple syrup, nuts, dried fruit, or fresh fruit.
